The War on Truth

I just read an article in The Weekly Standard that talked about the sermon given on Easter yesterday by Rev. Dr. Luis Leon.  Rev. Dr. Luis Leon is the pastor, I'm assuming, of St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.  This church happens to be where President Obama and his family attend.  What caught my eye and really set me off this morning was the following comment by Rev. Dr. Leon:

"It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back ... for blacks to be back in the back of the bus ... for women to be back in the kitchen ... for immigrants to be back on their side of the border."

Winning the Cultural War

Within the first few minutes of learning about the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, I knew that certain politicians, people, and ideas of thought were going to be blaming guns and calling for more gun control; or even the outright trampling of the 2nd Amendment by calling for criminalization of all guns.  The 2nd Amendment is fairly short but it is also one of the few amendments that is very specific in its wording.  There is no way around the 2nd Amendment unless you repeal it. It takes a two-thirds majority vote by the U.S. House and Senate.  It then goes to the states where it takes a three-fourths majority vote by the states (38 out of 50).

Capital Punishment in the Hebrew Bible

This past semester at The University of Alabama I took a very informative and enjoying class, REL 110 - Introduction to the Hebrew Bible.  The main assignment for this class was to do a research/position paper, on any topic of your choosing, as long as it was discussed in the Hebrew Bible.  Since most of you know that I intend on heading to law school after the Army, I was interested in researching the use of capital punishment in society and what position the Bible actually takes on capital punishment and argue in favor of capital punishment.  Now, understand that the use of the New Testament was not allowed, so I could only base my position or findings on what came out of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible).  All my life I have thought of myself as a supporter of the death penalty.  My position hasn't changed much in the past 16 years, so I was surprised to see my views on capital punishment change during my research.  I went into this assignment believing in the use of capital punishment, but willing to keep an open mind on the subject.  This is the paper that I submitted for this class.  I wanted to share it with all of you and see what thoughts or comments you have on the matter.

Glass-Steagall or Die!

For one of the classes I am taking at The University of Alabama right now, we had to present a research presentation on an issue that is affecting consumers.  Since I just got the new book Secret Weapon: How Economic Terrorism Brought Down the U.S. Stock Market and Why It Can Happen Again, by Kevin D. Freeman, I am currently focusing on the financial crisis of 2008 that has so deeply affected this country.  I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in finance, economics, and unconventional warfare.  This book does a very good job providing an in-depth analysis of not only our country's financial status, but the global financial status and what is occuring right underneath our noses.  You can purchase this book for either a Nook Color (my preferred e-reader) or the Kindle Fire at either Barnes & Noble or Amazon.

JoePa

With the death of a legend, Joe Paterno, occuring just a few days ago, I felt compelled to offer an opinion on something I've noticed and that has been annoying me for some time now.  Let's go back to when the Jerry Sandusky story first broke:

People were outraged.  As they should be.

People wanted answers.  How could this happen at a school such as Penn State?  How long had this been going on?  Who knew about what, and when did they know it?  There must be a cover-up!  "Something sinister is at play here."

People wanted Jerry Sandusky's head on a pike.  I wouldn't expect anything less from our vengeful society.  Hell, I wanted his head on a pike!
